The Many Streams of Conjure: An American Magical Tree of Knowledge
Whether it's called rootworking, blue roots, hoodoo, spirit working or its myriad of other names, conjure is an American magical tradition and practice that is a major contribution to the world's arcane spirit and spiritual practices. It reflects the cultural landscape and history of the south at its roots and economical and migratory profile in its branches. In this workshop, Orion will discuss some of the faces of conjure as a synergy of African, European, Native American and other cultures with Catholic, other Christian, Jewish and African Spiritual religious practices coupled with "magic born out of need". He will discuss his view that magic, as opposed to spiritual and mystical work, is always connected to the quest for freedom and the right to the good things in life.
Meeting the Dark Rider at the Crossroads
Throughout conjure practices,, the enigmatic figure of the spirit of the crossroads is a constant figure. As the opener of the ways and the meeting point between human and spirit, he is a consummate friend to the conjurer. He is known as Papa Legba, Elegba, the Dark Man, Old Jack/John, the Dark Rider and many other names. Orion will discuss lore from his tradition and the nature and practices associated with this powerful spirit ally. He will also lead us in a powerful visionary working to meet him and receive a blessed key to help "open up the road to goodness and blessing." Each participant will receive a physical key blessed by the dark rider at the end of the workshop.

Dara Anzlowar, old time spiritual worker, herbalist and owner of Hoodoo Roots will offer:
Learning and Understanding the Green: the Language of Plants You know that roots, herbs, barks, flowers and resins have always been used in spiritual and magic work since the beginning of time but would you know how to go about learning from the plants themselves what their personalities and spiritual properties are? Learn what to look for, how to approach, how to harvest, and how to work with herbs in a deeply traditional way. Learn about the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual medicines offered by the Wild, including the Conjuring Plants.
Traditional Techniques for Spiritual Maintenence: Spiritual cleansing is fundamental to safety and health of all those who perform magic or work deeply on a psychic or emotional level with others. Spiritual Baths, Hoodoo Hand and Head Washing, the use of Sacred Plants, and other types of Spiritual Cleansing are discussed and demonstrated. These techniques are rarely discussed and even less frequently demonstrated, yet implemented in one's life. They make a big difference to your power, happiness, health and well being. All participants will take away materials with which to cleanse themselves using these old time techniques.
