Using Incense Powders
Incense powders have a long history in Rootwork, Conjure and Hoodoo and are now becoming popular among Pagans for magical use. They are sometimes called “self lighting” because once lit they will continue to burn by themselves.
To use, simply use a small candle snuffer or a sewing thimble (easy to find at most “dollar stores”) to scoop out a cone sized amount, place in a heatproof container and light.
Another method is to cut a small piece of paper into a circle. Make a cut halfway into the circle and roll the paper into a cone shape, fill with incense and turn upside down on your heatproof container.
Incense powders can be used when doing magical work, helping to create the best possible atmosphere for the work to succeed, to cleanse negative influences from your home, to bring positive influences in, or to “smoke” a person, petition paper, amulet, tarot cards, holy objects or Mojo Bag, similar to smudging.
Use a feather to waft the smoke towards the person and have them step over the smoking incense for full effect.
Close the windows of your home and let the smoke build up to fumigate any negative energies - then open all the windows and command all negativity to leave your home with the smoke!
