Use of Magical and Essential Oils
The use of Holy Oil is mentioned in the Bible (Exodus 30) and is common to many religions and cultures as an aid in warding off the Evil Eye and other protective uses. Magical Oils are a staple of Hoodoo, Rootwork, Conjure and many Pagan magickal systems, especially for use in candle spells. Essential Oils are used in creating perfumes, room sprays and in Aromatherapy. You may place a small amount in a plant mister, add spring water and spritz your home to cleanse and expel negative forces or to draw in positive influences. You may use also burn them in various decorative devices designed for oil diffusing to scent your home. You can use them in Spiritual Bathing. Other methods include dressing amulets, mojo bags or other sacred items, using the oil to anoint your body as a perfume or body rub (especially useful in love, protection and money magick). If you are using a specific oil that is to affect another, place a small amount on your hand before you shake hands with them. Many people dress their paper money with money drawing oils using the "like attracts like" train of thought. If using an essential oil, check to ensure it is safe to use undiluted directly on the skin as many oils can cause skin irritations.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy originated in Europe as a healing art and is used in many hospitals there. Most people are familiar with the use of essential oils in candles or oil burners but Aromatherapy healing is utilized in facial steams, foot baths, room sprays, natural cosmetics as well. Susan Asselin is a certified Aromatherapist and works with each client individually to determine how their health needs can best be met. We stock over 45 essential oils imported from Europe.
Candle Spell Magick
Probably the most common form of magic employed today is utilizing candle spells. Any type of candle may be used, from a vigil candle purchased at your grocery store to a birthday candle. If using a non-glass encased candle, anoint the middle first, then wipe toward the top of the candle, then from the middle to the bottom. Take a sharp instrument or use a pen and carve your name (or the name of the person you are lighting the candle for) and date of birth. If using a vigil candle, take an ice pick or wooden skewer and poke 3 holes into the candle. Use the oil sparingly, too much oil will drown the flame or cause the flame to burn too high and create a fire hazard. With a vigil candle you can write the name(s) and date of birth on the label. Always remember to pray over your candle before lighting. Candles should never be left burning unattended. Mother Mystic stocks a variety of beautiful image Saint and special intention vigil candles for your magical and spiritual needs.
